THE PRESIDENT WAS PRESENTED WITH LETTERS OF CREDENCE BY THE AMBASSADOR OF THE UNITED MEXICAN STATES AND THE AMBASSADOR OF THE REPUBLIC OF KOREA
The President of Malta, H. E. Dr. Eddie Fenech Adami was presented with Letters of Credence by H.E. Jorge Chen Charpentier, Ambassador of the United Mexican States and H.E. Mr. Kim Joong-jae Ambassador of the Republic of Korea.
Both ceremonies took place in the Ambassadors’ Room at The Palace, Valletta.
In the afternoon, the President of Malta and Mrs Fenech Adami hosted the newly accredited Ambassadors to an official luncheon at San Anton Palace.

Profile: H.E. Mr. Jorge Chen Charpentier, Ambassador of the United Mexican States
Ambassador Charpentier was born in Mexico City in June 1950. He graduated in international relations at the “El Colegio de Mexico”.
His diplomatic career started in 1979 when he became part of the Mexican Foreign Service. He was appointed to ambassador in 1991 and has been stationed to various postings abroad such as: representative attaché within the European Union in Brussels (2001 – 2004); Ambassador for Mexico in Hungary (1998- 2001) and Charge` d’Affairs within the Mexican Embassy in Chile (1990). He also worked in the Mexican Permanent Mission within the United Nations (1979 – 1985).
The Ambassador was also Vice Minister for Latin America and the Caribbean (2005 – 2006); Director General for Europe (1995 – 1997) ; Director General for Asia and Africa (1993 – 1995); Director General for the Diplomatic Heritage (1992 – 1993) and counsellor for the Minister of Foreign Affairs (1985 – 1992).
The Ambassador was professor in the Americas University, in the Institute of Technology in Mexico and in the National University of Mexico.
Ambassador Chen speaks English and French. He is married with two children.

Profile: H. E. Mr. Kim Joong-jae, Ambassador for the Republic of Korea.
The Ambassador was born in May 1952. He graduated from the Department of Political Science and Diplomacy Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea.
Ambassador Joong-jae joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1975 and four years later was appointed as Third Secretary at the Korean Embassy in Italy. In 1981 he became Vice Consul, at the Korean Consulate General in Cairo, Egypt and four years later was posted at the Philippines as First Secretary within the Korean Embassy. Back at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1988 he served as Director for Computer System at the Office of Planning and Management and also as Director for Administrative Management within the same office (1989) and Director, East Europe Division II, European Affairs Bureau.
In 1991 he was appointed to the USA as Counsellor at the Korean Permanent Observer Mission to the United Nations and three years later was posted in the Korean Embassy in the Czech Republic as Counsellor.
He held other high-ranking positions such as: Minister and Consul-General at the Korean Embassy in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (1999); Director-General, European Affairs Bureau (2002); Korean Ambassador to the Great Socialist People’s Libyan (2003) and Secretary General, 2011 Daegu IAAF World Championships Bidding Committee (2006).
The Ambassador is married with two sons.
