THE PRESIDENT IS PRESENTED WITH LETTERS OF CREDENCE BY THE AMBASSADOR OF THE KINGDOM OF SPAIN AND THE AMBASSADOR OF THE REPUBLIC OF UKRAINE


The President of Malta, H.E. Dr. Edward Fenech Adami, was presented with the Letters of Credence by H.E. Miss Marta Vilardell Coma, Ambassador the Kingdom of Spain, and H.E. Mr. Georgii Chernyavskyi, Ambassador of the Republic of Ukraine.

The ceremonies took place in the Ambassadors’ Room at The Palace, Valletta.

This afternoon, the President and Mrs. Fenech Adami will host the newly accredited Ambassadors to an official luncheon at San Anton Palace.

H.E. Ms. Marta Vilardell Coma was born in Madrid in 1947.

The Ambassador has a University Degree in Philosophy.

She joined the Spanish Foreign Service in 1973 where she served in the Directorate General of Consular Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During the same year she was at the Embassy of Spain in Ankara as Secretary of Embassy.  She served the same post at the Embassy of Spain in Caracas between 1978 and 1981.

In 1981, the Ambassador served as Chief of Service of Staff in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Madrid.  Two years later she was appointed Chief of Service of the General Directorate of Foreign Policy for Europe in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Madrid. The Ambassador was then posted at the Embassy of Spain in Copenhagen as Cultural Attaché. This was followed by other postings within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Between 1994 and 1998 she served as Deputy Head of Mission in the Permanent Representation of Spain in the Council of Europe in Strasbourg.

H.E. Mr. Georgii Chernyavskyi was born in 1946.

The Ambassador studied at the Department of Roman and Greek Philology in Kyiv State University.

In 1970 he served the military service and worked also as interpreter. Between 1973 – 1986 he served as advisor, Department Director at the Ukrainian Society for Friendship and Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries. Between 1986 – 1992 he served in other posts such as Senior Advisor, Department Director, Protocol and Interparliamentary Relations at Verkhovna Rada (Parliament) of Ukraine.

The Ambassador was Chief of Protocol to the President of Ukraine from 1992 to 2005. In 2005 he was appointed Ambassador of Ukraine in Italy.

The Ambassador speaks English, French and Italian. He is married to Olga Poyarkova and has two daughters.
