As his first engagement related to the Arraiolos Malta Meeting, this afternoon President George Vella received the President of the Hungarian Republic, Katalin Novák, at Sant’Anton Palace.
Official talks touched upon the latest developments concerning the war in Ukraine and its immediate effects on energy security. Exchanges also revolved around the enlargement of the European Union, with both presidents underlining the importance of keeping Western Balkan countries on track. Migration and other demographic issues were raised together with the ongoing dialogue between the European Commission and Hungary in the context of rule of law.
President Vella took this opportunity to welcome President Novák to the Arraiolos Group as this is the first occasion in which she is representing Hungary in this format.
For his series of bilateral meetings with other Heads of State, President Vella is being accompanied by Acting Foreign Minister, Minister Owen Bonnici.
