As is tradition, on the first Saturday of August, the Ball of the August Moon was held at the Verdala Palace in aid of The Malta Community Chest Fund. This was the fifth and final edition of the Ball organised under the Presidency of President George Vella.
In a few words on the occasion, President Vella thanked all those who attended the Ball of the August Moon because their contribution is crucial for The Malta Community Chest Fund to continue assisting all those seeking its help, including chemotherapy patients. The number of patients receiving help for chemotherapy increased from 245 patients in 2018 to 717 patients in 2022. The cost increased from €8.5 million in 2018 to €19 million last year.
The president said that the officers and staff of The Malta Community Chest Fund are the backbone of the Foundation and thanked them for their dedication and commitment to providing the best service to the thousands of patients and beneficiaries that ask for help. He remarked that they often go beyond what is expected of them so that everyone is assisted in the most humane and adequate way.
Since the beginning of his presidency, President Vella has stated that he is determined to maintain the traditions held every year in aid of The Malta Community Chest Fund, including the Ball of the August Moon.
In light of this, the president expressed his appreciation for the work of the Chairman of the Ball’s organising committee, Marchesino Daniel de Petri Testaferrata, to make this event, one of the largest in aid of The Malta Community Chest Fund, a success. He also thanked all members of the organising committee and the partners and entities for their continued support.
For his part, Marchesino Daniel de Petri Testaferrata also thanked all the companies and entities for their help in enabling the organisation of another edition. He thanked the President of Malta and Mrs Miriam Vella for their continuous support during the last five editions of the Ball of the August Moon.
