The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, Tanja I. Beyer, presented her Letters of Credence to President George Vella at the President’s Palace in Valletta.
President Vella recalled that Malta and Germany enjoy excellent bilateral relations based on common interests, values and objectives with a strong legal framework comprising various forms of cooperation. Malta encourages all measures aimed at promoting business ties and an increased trade flow based on closer interaction between our respective commercial stakeholders. Among the other areas of cooperation, migration, renewable energy and people-to-people contacts were identified as the most promising. Germany’s support to the Mediterranean Academy for Diplomatic Studies was particularly welcomed by President Vella.
Ambassador Beyer explained the priorities for her term in office, mentioning in particular climate issues and energy. These issues, she added, can only be addressed globally, and reaffirmed Germany’s interest in working closely with Maltese authorities in these fields.
The war in Ukraine, instability in the Mediterranean, tensions in the Middle East and the situation on migration were also discussed at length.
