The President of Malta receives diplomatic credentials from new heads of mission

Three new diplomatic heads of mission presented their diplomatic credentials to President of Malta George Vella at San Anton Palace.

The High Commissioner of Canada Elissa Goldberg was the first to present her Letters of Commission to President Vella.

During the ceremony President Vella and High Commissioner Goldberg referred to the existing potential between the two countries in the commercial sector, also welcoming the fact that political relations are already excellent. The areas that were identified for enhanced cooperation ranged from the filming industry, IT and innovation, pharmaceuticals and FinTech.

The two interlocutors discussed the latest situation concerning the war in Ukraine and the multifaceted political and economic effects it is having on international affairs.

Next to present her Letters of Credence was the Ambassador of the Republic of Panama Ana Maria Reyes Castillo de Quevedo.

President Vella expressed Malta’s interest in exploring new areas of bilateral cooperation between Malta and Panama, referring to the potential in the commercial, investment and industrial fields. Ambassador Reyes Castillo de Quevedo agreed that there remains room for enhanced bilateral exchanges and added cooperation in the maritime sector to the priorities for her term.

The third to present his Letters of Commission was the High Commissioner of the Republic of Cyprus Yiorgos Christofides.

President Vella observed that relations between Malta and Cyprus are built on a sound convergence between the two countries. He added that both Malta and Cyprus share long histories, are Mediterranean island states, and share common regional objectives, and are both members of the European Union and the Commonwealth.
