On Wednesday evening, President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca was the guest of honour at the opening of an Art Exhibition at Dar Malta in Brussels. Entitled ‘Divergent Thinkers’, this artistic and curatorial project was conceived in 2011 by artist and curator Raphael Vella. It is being organised by Aġenzija Żgħażagħ with the support of St James Cavalier Centre for Creativity in collaboration with MIMCOL and Malta Government Investments Ltd.
In her speech, the President mentioned that Malta boasts of its one most exceptionable and invaluable resource, that of its people. She added that Malta is proud of its people and that they have made Malta proud through their achievements both at home and abroad.
Tying to the evening’s occasion, the President mentioned that she has experienced the imagination and creativity of Malta’s youth firsthand, especially through the works submitted for consideration of the President’s Award for Creativity. Apart from the creativity aspect, President Coleiro Preca also had words of praise for the skills and dedication of Malta’s workforce, and added that Malta is a country of excellence when it comes to various sectors such as ICT, financial services, maritime services and iGaming amongst others. She added that this is simply the result of the aptitude of the Maltese people.
The event was attended by the business community of Brussels, and it is for this reason that President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca gave a brief overview of the Malta Community Chest Fund, and the recurrent need for donations. The President described the Malta Community Chest Fund as “an important social arm of the Presidency, which intends to continue to assist people in their moment of need”, and it is for this reason that she invited those members of the Brussels business community who wish to show solidarity with the cause of the fund, to come forward with any idea that they might have to develop an initiative to continue collecting funds.
The opening of the Art Exhibition was also attended by the Minister for the Economy, Investment and Small Business, Chris Cardona, together with the Parliamentary Secretary for EU Presidency 2017 and EU Funds, Ian Borg.
President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca was accompanied by her spouse, Mr. Edgar Preca together with the Maltese Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium, Ray Azzopardi, and the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Malta to the EU, Ms. Marlene Bonnici.
