The President of Malta George Vella and Mrs Miriam Vella attended the State Funeral of Queen Elizabeth II at Westminster Abbey today.
Hundreds of dignitaries from around the world, including from Commonwealth countries, attended the State Funeral of Queen Elizabeth II. “The huge gathering of world authorities from practically all the countries gathered here to respectfully honour Queen Elizabeth II is impressive”, said President Vella. He added that in seventy years as head of the monarchy, Queen Elizabeth II showed wisdom, determination, and courage, and played a crucial role in strengthening the Commonwealth.
On Sunday, President Vella and Mrs Vella honoured Queen Elizabeth II at Westminster Hall, where her coffin lied in state, and also signed the book of condolences at Lancaster House. The President noted the devotion shown by the members of the public who in the last days viewed the coffin of Queen Elizabeth II to pay their respects for the last time. “It was a demonstration of enormous love and respect”, added the President.
On the eve of the Queen’s funeral, King Charles III gathered the heads of state, heads of the monarchy and other foreign dignitaries at Buckingham Palace. Here, King Charles III and Prince Edward spoke with President Vella and Mrs Vella about the beautiful moments that Queen Elizabeth II spent in Malta, which she described as “the island of beautiful memories”.
