‘Mill-Palazz’ is a series produced by the Office of the President consisting of 39 short episodes aired on TVM between October 2020 and June 2021. This cultural series, revolving around Sant’Anton Palace, was aimed at bringing the audience closer to the history of our country, celebrating the Maltese identity, and stimulating appreciation about this historic building, which is also the official residence of the President of Malta.
Through the innovative format of this production, it is Sant’Anton Palace itself that brings to the people the various aspects of Maltese culture. The Palace narrates its own history, salutes all those who visited it, and puts its cultural heritage on view. It also offers a space for Maltese musical talent and excerpts from Maltese literature.
The music is presented by young Maltese people who are studying abroad or who have just finished their studies. The excerpts read from Maltese literature are a mixture of classical and more modern authors; the choice was made with the aim of reading lesser-known passages or authors that may have been somewhat forgotten over time.
This project was carried out with the help of institutions such as L-Akkademja tal-Malti and the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra. The concept and script of the programme were in the hands of Dr Sandro Debono, while the production and artistic direction were entrusted to Gordon Bonello.
