Press release by the Office of the President of Malta

Today, 27th April 2026 at 7:30 pm, the President of Malta Her Excellency Myriam Spiteri Debono, received the Honourable Dr. Robert Abela, Prime Minister of Malta.
The President, in exercise of the powers conferred on her by Article 76, sub-article (1) of the Constitution of Malta, and also in accordance with sub-article five of the same Article 76, which states that ‘in the exercise of his powers under this article the President shall act in accordance with the Advice of the Prime Minister’, the President of Malta hereby gives notice and proclaims that the Parliament of Malta is and was dissolved this 27th day of April 2026.
The President of Malta, in exercise of the powers conferred upon her by Article 77 of the Constitution of Malta, acting in accordance with the Advice given to her by the Prime Minister, proclaims the date of Saturday 30th May 2026 to be the day on which a General Election of Members of the House of Representatives shall be held.
The President of Malta today also received at San Anton Palace Mr Joseph Camilleri Chief, Electoral Commissioner and by means of a Writ in terms of Article 44 subarticle (1) of the General Elections Act of 1991, Chapter 354 of the Laws of Malta, gave notice and charged the Chief Electoral Commissioner Mr Joseph Camilleri, and Ms. Melianie Azzopardi, Dr. Veronique Dalli, Mr Richard Dimech, Dr. Dianne Galea, Dr. Ian Micallef, Ms. Maria sive Marion Portelli, Mr Salvu Sant, Dr. Victor Scerri, Mr Angelito Sciberras, Mr Joseph Scicluna, as Electoral Commissioners, to see that an election of Members of the House of Representatives be held in accordance with the law, for the First, Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Seventh, Eighth, Ninth, Tenth, Eleventh, Twelfth and Thirteenth Electoral Districts.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives was today also informed of these developments today.
