During a ceremony held at the Santa Marija Community, a rehabilitation centre run by Sedqa Malta, Her Excellency Myriam Spiteri Debono recognised the achievements of a group of individuals who completed a programme against addiction. Relatives who were part of this journey were also recognised.

 

In her speech, the President of Malta recognised the extraordinary journey of resilience, hope and change of each and every one of the graduates, describing this evening as the first step of a new beginning.

 

The President also recognised the help that Sedqa has offered to those overcome by addiction and the agency’s commitment to prevention. Over the past year, Sedqa has helped 2,037 people with addiction problems and organised more than 4,100 information sessions in schools across Malta and Gozo.

 

At the end of her speech, the President also conveyed a message that prejudice needs to be reduced in our society. Her words were that “victims need help, not condemnation.”
