H.E. Myriam Spiteri Debono, President of Malta, presented the Malta Society of Arts’ Gold Medal to photographer Darrin Zammit Lupi. He was recognised for his contribution to artistic and journalistic photography.
 
In a speech during the ceremony, the President acknowledged not only Zammit Lupi’s career, but also the responsibility, empathy and public service linked to the profession of photography, and which he embraced for the common good throughout his career.
 
The Malta Society of Arts has been organising this ceremony since 1896, when the first Gold Medal was awarded to Maltese sculptor Vincenzo Cardona. Over time, this Medal has also been awarded to
Emvin Cremona, Richard England, Oreste Kirkop, Oliver Friggieri, Gabriel Caruana, Karmen Azzopardi and Austin Camilleri among others.
