Her Excellency Myriam Spiteri Debono, President of Malta, attended the celebration of Italy’s National Day, organised by the Embassy of Italy in Malta.

 

In her speech, the President of Malta noted how Italy was one of the first countries to recognise Malta’s sovereignty and establish diplomatic relations with our country, on the same day we gained Independence, and has since become one of our key partners in various sectors.

 

In light of this, President Spiteri Debono highlighted the friendship and cooperation between Malta and Italy, not only to strengthen political, economic, cultural and people-to-people ties, but also to address common challenges in the Mediterranean and at an international level, as well as the challenges of climate change and immigration among others, which require a collective approach, solidarity and shared responsibility.
