Her Excellency Myriam Spiteri Debono, President of Malta, welcomed His Excellency Yiorgos Christofides for a courtesy visit at the end of his term as non-resident High Commissioner of the Republic of Cyprus to Malta.
 
During the meeting, both sides discussed the positive relationship between Malta and Cyprus, built on common values ​​and interests, including the fact that both countries are located at the heart of the Mediterranean. The close cooperation both at bilateral level and within European and international fora was also highlighted.
 
The discussion also focused on regional developments in the Mediterranean and the Middle East, the work of Cyprus during the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, as well as on opportunities to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries in areas such as connectivity, tourism, education, maritime security and exchanges between the two peoples.
 
The President thanked His Excellency Yiorgos Christofides for his work in recent years and wished him every success in his future roles.
 
The High Commissioner was accompanied by the Deputy Head of the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Italy, Kypriani Stavrinaki.
