H.E. Myriam Spiteri Debono, President of Malta, joined the Indian community in Malta in celebrating Diwali; the festival of lights celebrated particularly by the Hindu community around the world.

In an address during the ceremony, the President reflected on the message of hope symbolised by the light that characterises this festival. The President also acknowledged the economic, cultural and social contribution of the Indian community in Malta, and highlighted the importance of workers who form part of this community and contribute to help sustain important sectors of the country, including healthcare and the care of the elderly.

The celebration was organised by the Maltese Indian Community, which brings together Indian families who have lived in Malta for around 150 years, and have built their businesses, raised families and integrated into Maltese society.
