Presentation of credentials by the Ambassadors of Thailand, Latvia and Austria

Three non-resident Ambassadors presented their credentials to Her Excellency Myriam Spiteri Debono, President of Malta, at the Presidential Palace in Valletta.

These are:

His Excellency Sathana Kashemsanta Na Ayudhya, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand,

Her Excellency Elita Gavele, Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia, and

His Excellency Martin Geoffrey Hermges, Ambassador of the Republic of Austria.

The Ambassador of Thailand discussed the strengthening of relations between Malta and Thailand. Discussions also revolved on the importance of fostering closer relations despite the geographic distance between the two nations, with emphasis on untapped avenues for collaboration.

The meeting with the Ambassador of Latvia focused on strengthening economic collaboration, security concerns, and the importance of unity within the European Union. The Ambassador commended Malta’s contributions at the United Nations and the role of small states in multilateral affairs. She referred to the impact the war of aggression by Russia on Ukraine has on neighbouring states, and Latvia is such a state.

The meeting with the Ambassador of Austria reaffirmed the strong diplomatic relations between the two countries. The President expressed her gratitude for Austria’s support within the OSCE, highlighting the valuable partnership between the two nations. The Ambassador emphasized Austria’s commitment to deepening bilateral relations.  Both sides acknowledged the importance of looking beyond traditional trade partners to forge new economic opportunities.

During the meetings, President Spiteri Debono congratulated the Ambassadors on their appointment.
