President Myriam Spiteri Debono welcomed Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, Leader of the United Transitional Cabinet of Belarus, at Sant’Anton Palace.
During their bilateral meeting, President Spiteri Debono and Ms Tsikhanouskaya discussed various topics including the current political situation in Belarus, the role of the European Union and gender equality.
Both leaders expressed the hope that the role of women in public life is accentuated and emphasized.
President Spiteri Debono reaffirmed Malta’s support for fundamental human rights and more democratisation, expressing solidarity with those fighting for freedom worldwide.
Ms Tsikhanouskaya acknowledged Malta’s sympathy for the struggle for freedom, particularly in Belarus, and thanked President Spiteri Debono for Malta’s role in promoting peace and security worldwide.
Ian Borg, Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade, attended the meeting.
