Three detective novels by Pawlu Xuereb were were re-published during a ceremony held under the patronage of the President of Malta, at the San Anton Palace. Wayne Camilleri’s ‘Ir-Rumanz Polizjesk’ was also published as part of the collection.

In her speech, Her Excellency Myriam Spiteri Debono noted how these novels recall another era when the country faced various social challenges – there was material but also educational and intellectual poverty, people had voting rights at 21 years, and poverty could be considered a social scourge.

Recalling the political and literary legacy of Pawlu Xuereb, the President expressed her hope that this publication will serve as a bridge between the past and the present, recalling the social progress and evolution of the living conditions of the Maltese over the years, and that the novels will serve to enable new generations to appreciate what should be considered a fundamental work in Maltese literature in terms of the detective novel genre.
