Courtesy call to the President of Malta by Cardinal Pietro Parolin

H.E. Myriam Spiteri Debono, President of Malta, received the Secretary of State of the Holy See, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, for a courtesy meeting at the San Anton Palace.
 
Cardinal Parolin conveyed the greetings and best wishes of Pope Leo XIV and noted with satisfaction the excellent cooperation between the two sides on various levels. He also praised Malta’s role in the multilateral arena and its commitment to peace, justice and the rule of law.
 
During the meeting, the international situation was discussed, including current conflicts and global challenges, with emphasis on the principles of fraternity, dialogue and the reform of multilateral systems, including the United Nations.
 
For her part, Her Excellency stated that Malta remains committed to addressing the root causes of conflicts while continuing to work towards peace and responsibility towards the international community.
 
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Ian Borg, emphasised Malta’s long-standing commitment to the multilateral system, while recognising the need for reform and a pragmatic approach in light of new global realities. He reiterated that Malta’s foreign policy remains aimed at strengthening dialogue, preventing conflicts and promoting peace.
 
Both sides agreed that despite global difficulties, there is a need for continued commitment towards the common good, peace and collective responsibility.
 
Also present for the meeting was the Maltese Ambassador to the Holy See, H.E. Frank Zammit.
