H.E. Myriam Spiteri Debono, the President of Malta, presided over the swearing-in ceremony of Dr. Alexander Borg as the Leader of the Opposition of Malta.
Following the appointment, the President invited the Leader of the Opposition for his remarks, during which he said that “this is a crucial moment. A moment that must unite the country and not divide it, with a policy through which we forget our differences, forget the red or the blue and focus on the white and the red – the colours that unite us all as one people.” Dr. Borg promised that he will work for a more united country.
In her closing remarks, the President congratulated Dr. Borg and encouraged him to act in accordance with the words of unity and togetherness with which he expressed himself in his speeches since becoming Leader of the Nationalist Party.
The President concluded by urging him to engage young people in politics, and to achieve this through dialogue and calm discussion.
