Two Ambassadors and a High Commissioner presented their Letters of Credence to Her Excellency Myriam Spiteri Debono, President of Malta, during a ceremony held at the Presidential Palace in Valletta.
The new diplomats are:
- His Excellency Zhang Zuo, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China;
- His Excellency Oleg Nica, Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova;
- His Excellency Arjuna Rodrigo, High Commissioner of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.
Following the presentation of credentials by the Ambassador of China, discussions focused on the ongoing collaboration between Malta and China in the commercial and educational sectors. Both sides also spoke about the potential for further strengthening bilateral ties in trade, culture, and the economy.
During his meeting with Her Excellency, the Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova referred to recent developments following the general elections in Moldova, in which the people expressed a clear message in favour of full membership in the European Union. The Ambassador reiterated his commitment to exploring new opportunities for cooperation, particularly in the field of education and through collaboration within the Council of Europe.
For his part, the High Commissioner of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka highlighted the opportunities for Malta and Sri Lanka to enhance their already strong relations through new initiatives in education and tourism. He also acknowledged Malta’s longstanding role as a strong advocate for peace and its active participation in multilateral fora such as the United Nations and the Commonwealth.
During the meetings, President Spiteri Debono congratulated the Ambassadors and the High Commissioner on their appointments and expressed her best wishes for the continued strengthening of relations between Malta and their respective countries.
