A resident Ambassador and a new non-resident Ambassador presented their credentials to the President of Malta.
Two Ambassadors presented their credentials to Her Excellency Myriam Spiteri Debono, President of Malta, at the Presidential Palace in Valletta.
These are:
The Ambassador of the Italian Republic Her Excellency Valentina Setta,
and
The Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia His Excellency Vladimir Karapetyan.
When presenting the Credentials to Her Excellency, the Ambassador of the Republic of Italy spoke about the excellent relations between Italy and Malta. She stressed the commitment of her mission to strengthen this link, particularly in the fields of diplomacy, culture, and education, key among which is teaching the Italian language in Malta.
Her Excellency Myriam Spiteri Debono recognised Malta’s appreciation for Italy’s cooperation in various areas, since the beginning of relations, and highlighted cooperation in the energy sector.
Her Excellency also reflected on her recent meeting with President Sergio Mattarella, during which both sides discussed pressing issues such as European security. Reiterating Malta’s neutral stance, she recognised the country’s active role in safeguarding and promoting peace and humanitarian rights, principles that follow the lines of Italy’s foreign policy objectives.
The Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia expressed his determination to contribute and lead discussions to strengthen the bilateral relationship between Armenia and Malta. He noted how reciprocal visits by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of both countries, including the visit of the Maltese Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs to Armenia last year, would contribute to this strengthening.
H.E. Myriam Spiteri Debono spoke about the challenges in the region, pointing out the importance that a country such as Armenia should actively work for peace and stability, to be able to leave a necessary influence on a multilateral scale.
During the meetings, President Spiteri Debono congratulated the Ambassadors on their appointment.
